To achieve that number without deviating from Runescape's center simplicity, the team adopted an unusual design philosophy quite early on: modular challenges. "I performed dungeoneering a lot back in those days, as a player, even though I was not a programmer on that project myself," Bridges said. "And there was a great deal in there that I liked, but there was also a lot in there at which I believed, with hindsight, perhaps I could refine it."

The largest characteristic Xeric inherited is its crafting system. Unlike with dungeoneering, players may bring whatever gear and items they want into the raid. But they'll inevitably run out of equipment, typically well before even reaching Olm. At that point, players need to restock mid-raid utilizing the resources around them. This ties into these non-combat rooms, which are in fact one of Xeric's most striking features.

Rather, Xeric enables players adept in particular abilities --hunting, fishing, herblore, farming etc --to contribute to the celebration by preparing materials.

You might not be a healer that is designated, but if you've got the highest herblore on your team, you are likely to craft the best potions. The same goes for farming the herbs to make those potions, or catching the best fish to get a skilled cook to prepare. Xeric is practically impossible without amassing these raid-specific tools, so by proxy, you will still wind up recovery or buffing your teammates. This raid is not about the skills on your hotbar or the stats on your armor; it is about what you've done with your personality, the skills you have leveled and learned. This eyeglasses an elegant solution to one of Runescape's central limitations with respect to raiding, and it reinforces that Xeric is high quality content while penalizing, instead of intimidating, low-level players.

"So much of Runescape is about accomplishing goals runescape 3 gold for sale ," Charles explained.
